in your gradebook (multiple choice/true & false quesitons). If an instructor needs to review the material submitted for an assignment (normally short answer, essay, fill-in-the-blank type questions), quiz or exam then the instructor will need to review the submission and then post a grade in the gradebook.

To access your grades, click on the MY GRADES menu item on the left

or go to TOOLS link and select My Grades.

The image below is taken from a sample course. The name of each gradeable item will appear in the first column, followed by details and a due date if applicable.

The next column titled, "Last Submitted, Modified or Graded will have the date that the item was submitted or modified by you OR graded by the instructor.

The next columns represents your grade, the possible points available, and any overall comments the instructor made on your assessment. Your instructor may have chosen to add his or her comments directly to the homework file so if you don't see anything here it doesn't mean you haven't been given any feedback.

Additional information on the gradebook is:

A - the total points for the course

B - the total points you received on this assignment. To see more details you should click on the blue, underlined "5" which is actually a link back to the assessment and instructor feedback.

C - the total points you received on this assignment. Again, to see more details you should click on the blue, underlined "1.0" which is actually a link back to the assessment and instructor feedback.

D - this means that you submitted the homework (on Dec 8, 2009) but the instructor has not yet graded it.

$75 for upper division and Graduate courses (300-600 level).

Until recently—as a carryover from days when we primarily offered correspondence courses—CDE collected a fee for postage and for handling paper lessons. We've recently removed that fee and alternately instituted this new distance fee to include expanded curriculum design and technology services. Creating and delivering a rich, high-quality distance education experience incurs a variety of costs that at least match—and usually exceed—those demanded by traditional face-to-face offerings. These costs include instructional design, technology implementation and training, ongoing instructor and student support, and continuous investigation into best practices in pedagogy and methodology—as well as the faculty development needs
derived from them.

What benefit will students receive from the distance fee?

The distance fee allows us to create a better learning experience for students by:

reviewing and revising distance courses more frequently

providing faculty training and support

maintaining an advisor specifically for distance education

providing in-house registration

providing support and security for proctored exams

offering technical support and assistance

How to Participate in the Class Discussion Board

Your instructor may have set up a discussion board for use in your class. There
are several ways an instructor might use the discussion board and your participation
is probably factored into the overall grading scheme. A discussion begins with
a Forum which might be tied to a specific chapter or lesson, an overall topic,
or a general area. Most likely you will not be asked to create a new forum -
this will be set up by the instructor.

Within a Forum a discussion contains threads (the main ideas) and replies (responses to threads). Its very important to pay attention when you are posting your ideas to make sure they are placed in the appropriate place.

How to Open a Forum:

Click on the Forum you wish to enter.

How to Add a New Thread:

If your instructor has set up your discussion board to allow new threads
you can click on the New Thread button to create a new
thought to the forum.

In the Subject field type in the subject
for your new post. This should be short and concise and sum up your thought.
In the Message field type in your message. Click on the Previewbutton to see what it will look like once its posted. If you need to make changes,
click on the Back button on your browser. To post the thread, click on the Submit button.

How to Open a Thread:

Click on the thread you'd like to open. Threads are generally aligned to the
 outermost left.

How to Reply to a Thread:

Click on the Thread that you'd like to respond to
and then click on the Reply button.

You will see that since this is a reply the subject field is already completed for you. In the Message field, type your response. Click on the Preview to see what it will look like. Click on the Back button on your browser if on you need to make changes. Click on the Submit button to submit it.

Options
