Using Blackboard-Digital Dropbox
There are two reasons to use the digital dropbox: storing files and sending files.
By using the Add File feature, you can use the digital dropbox as a place to store files that you use in your blackboard course. Once files are added you are able to download them or remove them.
Your instructor may want you to use the digital dropbox to send in your homework assignments or projects. Once you send a file you may not remove it until the instructor has sent it back to you.
One of the most common errors a student makes when sending their lessons to their instructors is using the add button instead of the send button.
1. To go to the Digital Dropbox select the Tools link.
2. Select the Digital Dropbox link.
3. You will see buttons on this page for Add, Send, and Remove File. Select the Add button.
4. Click on the Browse button to look on your computer for the file you want to add.
5. The File Upload dialog box opens. Select the file you want to add to the dropbox. In this case its the notes_Lesson1 item.
Click the Open button.
6. Select the Name textbox and enter the Name of the file.
Select the Comments textbox and enter any Comments you have about the file.
Click the Submit button.
7. Click the OK button.
Notice the reminder that you file is not being sent to the instructor! The file is only being added to the blackboard server. Files added will show the date and time posted. Files sent to the instructor will show the date and time submitted. These dates and times are not those on the user's computer, but rather on the Blackboard server.
8. File added. Click the OK button.
9. We've just added a file. It has not been sent to the instructor. At this point you have several choices:
- leave it here
- remove it by clicking on the remove button
- add another file
- send it to the instructor
Lets just leave it here for now.
10. Let's send a new file to the instructor. Click on Send.
11. Select one of the files already added...or click on the Browse button to select a new file.
12. Select studentid-Lesson1.
Click the Open button.
13. Select the Name textbox and enter the file name.
Instructor 's may have specific file naming formats so read class instructions. Example, same-name files can be over-ridden by another student so instructor's often ask for username to be added to file name.
Select the Comments texbox and add any comments.
Click the Submit button.
14. Click the OK button.

15. File submitted to instructor can not be removed until instructor sends it back to student. Click the OK button.
After following this example you should be able to successfully add and send files through the digital dropbox.
