Track Changes or Comments

How to read Instructor's Comments in Microsoft Word Documents

Your instructor may use the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word to make comments to the files you submit for grading. If you haven't used this feature before it might look like you are not getting any feedback because the comments may be hidden from normal view. The following should help you to see these comments:

For those using Windows

After you open Word you can view comments and changes in two ways:

  1. Go to the View menu and select Markup. If the instructor has created comments you should see them along the side of your document.

  2. OR

  3. Go to Tools and select Track Changes. As with the above method, if the instructor has created comments you should see them along the side of your document

For those using Max OSX

After you have opened Word there are several ways to make sure that you are seeing all comments:

  1. Under the Tools menu, go to Track Changes, then Highlight Changes and make sure all three boxes are checked.

  2. OR

  3. Under the View menu, click on Comments. If your instructor has created comments they should appear at the bottom of the page.
