Activate Your Aurora Email and ID
Do You Already Have a UAF (Aurora) ID?
The UAF (Aurora) ID is a 4-6 character username that is used to access UAF Email, Blackboard, Web Conferencing, and other UAF online services. Sample Aurora IDs are:
- fsabc
- rfabc
- zsabc
- bfxyz
All students who enroll for classes are automatically assigned an Aurora ID. If you have used one in the past but can't remember it, proceed to step 3.
If you know your Aurora ID but can't remember the password, you will need to contact the UAF Help Desk at 1-800-478-4667.
Activating Your New ID
If you have registered with UAF but not yet accessed your Aurora ID, you will need to activate it. You can find your ID and activate it using the the Email Tools Page (https://ssl.uaf.edu:1917/). Go there and you will see a link at the top for the "Email Account Lookup Form":

Click the link and you will be asked to fill out a form verifying your identity. Remember that your University ID Number is either your Social Security Number (no spaces or dashes) or an 8-digit number assigned to you when you registered:

Fill out the form, indicate agreement with all the conditions, and press the "Lookup My Account" button at the bottom of the page:
![]()
If your ID is found you will receive a confirmation page indicating that the lookup was successful and your account has been activated.
If you receive an error that no user matching your information was found, double check that your birthdate and University ID were entered correctly. If you are still unable to activate your account, you will need to contact the UAF Help Desk at 1-800-478-4667.
If you already have an activated Aurora ID that you do not remember, you will receive an error like the following:

In this case, proceed to the next step to find out what your ID is!
Finding Your Existing ID
You can find your existing ID using the UAF Finger Gateway (http://cgis.uaf.edu/cgi-bin/afinger).
Proceed to that link and enter your last name:

The system will list all users that match the name you entered. Search for the correct one and note the Aurora ID (highlighted in yellow below):

If you happen to remember your password you are all set! If you can't remember you password, you will need to contact the UAF Help Desk at 1-800-478-4667.
