Tuition and Fees

For yearlong Independent learning courses, all fees are payable in advance at the time of enrollment. Payment by Mastercard or Visa is accepted.

Tuition

  • $141 per credit for courses at the 00, 100, and 200 levels
  • $159 per credit for courses at the 300 and 400 levels
  • $316 per graduate course credit (600)

UA Network Charge

The University has approved a Network Service Fee to cover rapidly rising costs related to the maintenance and enhancement of our university-wide technology infrastructure.

The fee will be charged on a course-by-course basis, per credit hour, as follows:

  • $3 per credit for 100-200 level courses
  • $3 per credit for 300-400 level courses
  • $6 per graduate course credit (600 level)

Technology Fee

$5 per credit up to $60 per semester.

Material Costs

Materials costs vary depending on the course. Prices for materials are listed with the course description. For most courses, material fees will be collected with tuition and fees, and materials will be mailed to you. Fairbanks students who enroll in a semester-based course must come to CDE to purchase materials; your material fees will not be included in tuition and fees when you register.

Additional Costs

Students outside the United States must submit payment in US dollars and will be charged a $55 fee per course plus shipping charges for the delivery of materials. CDE reserves the right to discontinue or revise courses, change instructors, and adjust fees without advance notice as needed. Special requests which incur additional costs for the Center will be charged back to the student.

Financial Aid

Tuition waivers for UA employees and their dependents are applicable to Independent Learning courses. Veterans' benefits and other forms of financial aid are also often applicable to Independent Learning fees. Check with the local Financial Aid office about these policies. No enrollment will be processed without the appropriate tuition fee waiver or financial assistance form.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks participates in the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) programs; information is available from base personnel or education officers. Veterans' educational benefits are also applicable for Independent Learning courses. DANTES students must complete UAF enrollment forms.

Be sure to read the CDE policies for Transfers, Withdrawals, and Refunds.
